Midday In The Garden Of Good And Lovely

Being on tour is a great thing for the most part, but it can be monotonous, grueling, and most of all, very uncomfortable. Having the simplest comforts that we normally take for granted are the most gratifying in such circumstances. A few days into Tkatz tour on our way to Philly from D.C.,O8O came up with the greatest idea; "We are gonna stop by Ma Ma and Pap Pap's. O8O was immediately on the phone dialing up his grandmother to ask if these hungry and tired Tkatz could stop by and raid her fridge. So we were on our way to Columbia Maryland to meet 080's amazing grandmother "Ma Ma". 20 minutes later we were pulling up to the household of Henry and Barbara Felton, better known to the Tkatz as Pap Pap and Ma Ma. 7 disheveled bodies lumbered up to the door of the lovely home of the Feltons, and were greeted with hugs and the enormous smile of "Ma Ma". She encouraged our motley crew to feel free to raid the fridge, cabinets and counters of her lovely kitchen. We munched on hummus and pita's, stuffing are face with just about any snack you can imagine and Mel and 080 was busy scarfing down fried fish. We were even welcome to quench our thirst with mini budweiser's from Pap Pap's stash. The home was very classic in design and the walls were full of some incredible paintings from Pap Pap. I honestly did not want to leave this gorgeous abode. While stuffing down pita and hummus, I caught a glimpse of the back yard area and was instantly awe struck at the Zen garden that was just outside the sliding glass door. I asked Ma Ma if I could visit the serene garden, and of course she obliged. I was struck with a feeling of peace and calm being in this garden that looked as if it came right out of a novel. I snapped a few iphone pics and posted them below for all to enjoy this magnificent Zen Garden. These are the experiences in life no matter how simple and short that I will carry with me forever. My only regret is that I didn't get to meet Pap Pap. He was out for the day, and I hope to meet him soon. I will be blogging some of his remarkable paintings in an upcoming blog.

Bad Brains Hoodies by Supereme

Supreme just released a new hoodie set, paying tribute to one of my all time favorite bands the Bad Brains. The Washington D.C. band created the hardcore punk rock movement in the late 70's and influenced many bands, and was an enormous influence on me. These hoodies come in grey and red and feature the Bad Brains font on the front and also the band members names and instruments played on the back. I must have these to keep the chill off this winter.

Artist Profile: Jacklin Ariel Jones

I first experienced the artwork of Jacklin Ariel Jones at Solstice Cafe' located in the Grant Park section of Atlanta. Solstice is a very hip lounge that boasts some very intruiging local artwork. Ginger was a bartender at the time, and it was one of Tkatz favorite nightly haunts. I was simply amazed at the artwork displayed by Jacklin. What amazed me the most was her age. Her work is far beyond her 20 years. She works in many different mediums of art, such as sculpture, photography, and painting. Her work also does not follow any singular theme as most artists I have met. Jacklin will no doubt make an enormous impact on the art world. She has already made a huge impact on those of us lucky enough to have seen her amazing and growing talent. Kimbo Slice Gets Knocked The F@CK Out

Miami street brawling legend and Youtube sensation Kimbo Slice aka Kevin Ferguson got knocked out Saturday night at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise Florida. The fight was the main event for CBS's Elite XE. Kimbo was scheduled to fight washed up mixed martial arts fighter Ken Shamrock, but Shamrock cut his eye during a sparring session earlier in the day, and wasn't allowed to fight Slice. Elite XE pulled Seth Petruzelli from an undercard fight and placed him in the main event against Slice. Petruzelli is much smaller than Kimbo, but has alot more experience. It only took Petruzelli 14 seconds to stun and K.O Kimbo, which shocked the Bank Atlantic Center, and also shocked the hell out of me. I was stunned when Kimbo went down after the first punch. To Kimbo's credit he took this fight having zero knowledge of Petruzelli's style. Kimbo made good on his promise to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. Unfortunately it blew up in Kimbo's face on national television. I hope that Kimbo can recover from this, but only time will tell if Slice really belongs in the elite sport of mixed martial arts.

Gas Tube Clock

The Nixie Clock is comprised of six gas cathode tubes very similar to guitar amplifier tubes, that display bright orange glowing numbers in hours, minutes and seconds. The base is constructed of black anodized aluminum and cherry wood. This clock reminds me of what Dr. Frankenstein would use as a timekeeper. The price tag is not too bad at $415(US). Tkatz debuted a fresh energetic new set at The Masquerade on Saturday night with enormous success. Opening up for the ever popular "Hollywood Undead", Tkatz took over the sold out crowd from the first notes of "Fast Forward", and kept hitting the crowd hard with new material that heated up the pit so much that 2 people passed out. Tkatz prodigies "Flyy Academy" spit a couple of versus on N.E.R.D.'s "Anti-Matter to thunderous ovations, and Tkatz finished strong with the crowd singing "3 AM". This show was a great gauge for the new set that is almost complete. Tkatz will be playing on Friday Oct.3rd at "Purgatory" inside the Masquerade. Travis Barker and DJ AM Critically Injured in Plane Crash

Uber Drummer Travis Barker and Turntable Wizard DJ AM aka Adam Goldstein were critically injured when their lear jet careened off the runway after air traffic control reported sparks coming from the jet. The crash happened in Columbia S.C. friday night after Barker and Goldstein performed a free show in the five points area of Columbia. Also performing at the T-Mobile sponsored event were Perry Farrell and headliner Gavin Degraw. There was speculation that Farrell and Degraw was on the plane, but has since been confirmed that they were not. Unfortunately four others were killed in the tragedy. The two celebrities were taken to an Augusta Georgia burn center where they are in critical but stable condition. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased,and also to Barker and AM on a speedy recovery.

The Peugeot "Loop" concept car by designer Abhinav Dapke is yet another "Green" bastion of the automotive industry. The "Loop" is ultra dynamic in it's design and functionality. The solar paneled roof spans the entire length of the car which maximizes energy that is stored into a lithium battery. It also features a built in Hi-Def camera that is embeded into the passenger windows. All you have to do is touch the window to snap away at those interesting sights we usually ignore on the freeway. Very little is known about the "Loop" at the present time, but look out for a whole series of these "green" cars in the near future.

They came into prominance after playing the Athens Popfest in August of 07 in my former place of residence, Athens Georgia. This weeks Nike is the Nike Dunk SB Low - Magnet/Poison/Green. It has the obigatory 80's colors of pink and green, also mixed with black suede and gray leather. I am impressed at how these colors jump out being that they are a softer shade. I also think they are the hottest low top dunks I have seen in awhile. Cheers...

Turntable Transformer Cellphone

The "Box to Play" phone designed by KDDI AU Design Project of Japan is a cellphone that has a built in turntable that transforms into a box with a graphic equalizer interface. It has all the normal cellphone functions such as mp3 player, camera and email. You can scratch your mp3's with the built in turntable and when transformed it becomes a box that has a led graphic equalizer as shown in the photo above. It is not currently on the market yet, but I will post more info as soon as it drops.

Obama chooses Biden as VP Running Mate

After weeks of speculation, Senator Barack Obama finally announced yesterday that he wants long time Delaware Senator Joe Biden to be his running mate. The choice may have let down many Hillary Clinton supporters as the "Dream Ticket" never came to fruition. The choice of Biden however was probably the best choice, but maybe not the popular one. Joe Biden brings 35 years of experience to the ticket and is a well liked Senator around Washington D.C and very well received around the world. He is the chairman of the foreign relations commitee, which will relieve most tensions of Senator Obama's lack of foreign policy experience. Biden is a fighter for "blue collar" workers, and has dedicated his tenure to strengthen the "middle class". He is nearly 20 years older than Obama, and has a wealth of experience that Obama can use to bring America back to a respectable and more prosperous country. The Democratic base is ecstatic about the Obama-Biden partnership as the convention in Denver starts tomorrow.

This Audi Concept Car is the creation of Czech designer Ondrej Jirec. The name the Audi "O" is definately apropos. The Audi-O or audio is a mash up of car and stereo that really blows all concept cars out of the showroom. This Ipod inspired automobile sports internet connectivity as well as a 650 GB built in hard-drive and 2Dj decks and mixer. It also has blue-tooth that will connect to other Audio-O's for sharing beats and downloaded music. Bernie Mac was truly a Comic Legend

Bernie Mac was larger than life. From his roots on the South Side of Chicago to the big screen and television, he slipped into his parts with a comic prowess that had been honed for decades. The first time I remember seeing Bernie was in the cult classic "Friday", where he played a not so legit man of the cloth. He was just brilliant as "Pastor Clever" as he shrieked in terror when chased by pint sized "Mr. Parker" after getting busted messing around with Mrs. Parker. Bernie could do more acting with those giant eyes than most can with their whole body. He brought such a human quality to all of his characters, although most of those characters were flawed, which really gave him a great platform to convince the audience. His range was much broader than most people realize. In any format, be it stand up comedy(The Original Kings of Comedy, movies(Ocean's 11 Trilogy) or television(The Bernie Mac Show) he made us laugh and entertained the hell out of us. His contributions to the entertainment industry will be sorely missed. As fellow Ocean's 11 cast mate Don Cheadle stated, "Heaven just got a lot funnier". Bernie Mac was only 50 when he left us this week, but he touched us and entertained us as though he had been around for a hundred years.

The Nike of choice this week is the NIKE TERMINATOR BONEYARDS (NEIGHBORHOOD). This sneaker is a collaboration of Nike, Stüssy and Neighborhood. I especially love the perforated swoosh and the anchors. I wish Nike would send me all three pairs so I could properly test these sneaks out with some different wardrobe selections. I love all things "Simpsons", so I really love this Simsons branded Ipod. It's a limited edition series, so only 2000 were made. The Ipod comes in Classic, Nano, Touch, and Shuffle models. Each Ipod is numbered on the back and comes with Homer and Bart artwork. It is pricier than normal Ipods, but well worth it to cure your "Simpsons" fixx.

Built on a forty-five degree incline, the property presented unparalleled challenges. ‘Most of the one hectare site was too steep to build on. Only a few hundred square metres offered space for a building,’ says architect Graham Burrows, one of three directors of the practice. ‘We wanted to create a dynamic sculptural object. But we also wanted to take advantage of the views,’ says Burrows. Perched on a base footprint of barely seven by nine metres, this tranquil looking house seems to blossom out of the hillside like a squared mushroom.

Movie Review: X-Files: I want to Believe by P@dge

I wanted to believe that this movie was going to be some continuation of the last movie released in 1993, but it was not. Instead, the movie reminded me of one of the older TV episodes where there was some strange non-alien phenomenon under investigation by Mulder and Scully. Let me give you the bottom lines on this flick:

· No aliens
· Annoying, almost “ER” like hospital scenes with Scully that bored me
· Mulder and Scully are living together now and no longer work for the FBI

In fact, the best part of the movie was finding out slowly that Mulder and Scully, played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, finally hooked up and are living together. The story does have a lot of interesting character background that I assume was an attempt to get the audience thinking about related modern issues. Some of these issues were: priest pedophiles and redemption, stem cell research, and the extent of gay love. Without giving too much away, the plotline is essentially the investigation of a missing FBI agent that ultimately leads to the discovery of a Russian gay lover trying to save his partner using a modern day Frankenstein doctor. There is also a hint of what would have been an interesting crush by actress Amanda Peet on Mulder before she gets killed. So, in essence we have a movie that will moderately please the dedicated fan base, but ultimately disappoint everyone. As I walked out of the theatre I summed it up in my head as follows: it was not bad, but I would have liked it a lot more if the gay Russian lover was saving his partner so they could feed him to an alien. I would have been happier eating a hot pocket and watching G4 TV.
